Leung Iu states - I am at present a prisoner in Victoria Gaol. I was convicted of personating a Policeman and sentenced to 6 months imprisonment on the 3rd August. I was formerly in the Water Police; I was a Constable. I was employed for 8 months. On account of my father's death, I ran away in April 1892.
I then joined the Customs as a seaman and was employed for 2 years. Then I became an excise officer in the Hau Fook Opium Farm. When the Hau Fook lost the farm, I lost my employment for some months. Then the Man Fook employed me. They took me on in June 1896 and employed me till I was imprisoned. I was not employed as an Excise Officer but as a spy, and I had $10 a month.
In May 1895, I gave information to P.C. No. 108, on which he seized 5 chests of opium that were being smuggled. I was not at that time in the service of the Man Fook. Captain Hastings gave me a reward of $100 for my information.
I know that Inspector Stanton & Quincey got $45 a month each from the Man Fook Company not to interfere with the smuggling of opium. Pang On used to keep a list of the Police that were bribed by the Farmer; I have seen the list. I saw it the year before last. Pang On showed it to me. Pang On could...
